A famous herb, Ephedrine has many pharmacological actions and used for medicinal purpose. But, due to some safety issues, this herb was  banned in the U.S before.

Ephedrine is used for many purposes such as obesity, weight loss, and it usually enhances performance of athletes. Other than weight losing purpose. For reducing a weight of about 12 pounds or 5.13 kg, 90 mg of ephedrine is used in combination with 192 mg of caffeine from cola nut on a daily basis for six months. This combination is also used to cut down the low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL), reduces the already stored body fats, and increases the amount of HDL cholesterol. But, the dose ranges should be monitored by any doctor because it can also cause a slight increase in heart rate and blood pressure.
